Taj Burrow

Pro Surfer Taj Burrow

Taj Burrow was born under the Gemini sign to surfing addicts relocated from California, 31 year old Australian Taj Burrow began surfing at the age of seven. Since then he has become world renowned in the surfing world. Living up to the promise he showed early on, Taj is known for dizzying aerial maneuvers and steadfast focus on his goal to become world champion. He not only has amazing skill, he also has an all-important consistency and competitive ability.

Taj is a typical red-blooded young man who likes cars, music, and the attention of women, but his solid family values have held him in good stead during his quick success. Taj is very close to his parents, and he even bought a second home across from them. Taj has needed all that good influence. His career has been very public for a long time; Taj has been in 13 movies or television programs, he has his own surf instruction website, and has many sponsors requiring many photo shoots. Good-looking and easygoing, Taj is a hit.

But Taj has always been clear about his priority. His first success came just two years after he started surfing when he won the under-18 division in a local contest at the age of nine. Although he qualified for WCS in his first year on the WQS circuit, he hung back a year to be sure he was ready for the WCS and pursuit of a world title. When he went on to become Rookie of the Year in his 1998 debut on the WCS, it was clear his plan had worked. Taj has been a true contender at all times. Twice he has been runner up for the world title.

A couple of years ago, Taj switched from a traditional polyurethane board to new Firewire technology. Critics disliked the change, and it indeed looked for a while like he had lost his form. Taj has mastered his new boards, and he is back in top form. Midway through the 2009 season, Taj is in second place. His campaign to be ASP world champion is in full force.
