Red Bull Surfing Trip - Mentawais
Just this past month, off the coast of West Sumatra, Indonesia in the island chain of Mentawai, the world’s greatest surf stars and surfing professionals came together for a ground-breaking event, the Red Bull Surfing event. For ten days, professional surfing’s most elite athletes such as Jamie O’Brien, Sofia Mulanovich, Ian Walsh, Agustin Munoz, Mick Fanning, Sally Fitzgibbons, Adriano de Souza, Jordy Smith and Bruce Irons, came together to live, work, and play as part of this Red Bull event. This event was a first for the surfing world. Why get involved in an athletic event of this nature as Red Bull did? It was a perfect fit; as studies have shown that drinking Red Bull leads to an upper body anaerobic muscular endurance increase. So what better way to get results than to combine elite athletes, perfect conditions, and an increase in upper body anaerobic muscular endurance than to have a Red Bull Surfing event? |

Prior to this in 2005, the Red Bull surf team consisting of three-time World Champion Andy Irons, 2005 Eddie Aikau big wave event winner Bruce Irons, 2005 Pipeline Masters winner Jamie O’Brien, Australian native Mick Fanning, veteran of WTC Beau Emerton, most highly acclaimed women’s surfer Keala Kennelly, Maui charger Ian Walsh and newbies Alex Grey and Ben Dunn, surfed the completely unchartered oceans of Fiji. For the ten day long event, surfing’s most elite all stayed on a gorgeous surf charter boat called the “Indies Trader IV”. The special surf charter boat, the Indies Trader IV, was just the right weapon to search the waters for the most perfect waves. The Indies Trader IV took the elite Red Bull surfers all around the beaches and reefs of the exotic locations of Mentawai in search of perfect waves. The scenario did two things for the surfers; the landmark waves provided for extreme challenges for the seasoned surfers while, surfing next to athletic greats like Jamie O’Brien, Sofia Mulanovich, Ian Walsh and Bruce Irons, provided the newer surfers with confidence and direction from surfing’s most achieved role models.
In addition to Red Bull surfing, Red Bull is also the primary sponsor of many other sports. Red Bull sponsors the Red Bull Air Race World Series, as well as sponsoring a MiG-17 flown in air shows around the United States. The Mig-17 is flown by Bill Reesman. This year in Rotterdam, Netherlands, Red Bull sponsored the Red Bull Cliff Diving Series where nine-time World Champion Orlando-Duque took the victory. Elite athletes from around the globe drink and endorse Red Bull Energy Drink. Reggie Bush, NFL athlete, jumped on the Red Bull endorsement wagon in 2009. Following Reggie Bush, two other NFL athletes endorsed Red Bull; Devon Hester and Rajon Rondo. Additionally, Kevin Pietersen, a cricketer from England, recently signed an endorsement deal with Red Bull Energy Drink. Official RED BULL Sites
