 Mixed Martial Artist Anderson Silva of the UFC is known as the Greatest Pound for Pound fighter in the world. Born on April 14, 1975 in Brazil. Silva is a Black Belt in Jiu-Jitsu which he earned in 2006. Anderson also has some of the best Muay Thai skills around. MMAWeekly and Sherdog both have Anderson Silva ranked as the #1 Middleweight in the World. He stands 6' 2" tall and now fights in both the 185 Middleweight and 205 Light Heavyweight divisions. Silva's first professional fight was in May of 2000 in which he lost on a split decision. Silva is now fighting in the UFC and has six fights left under his current contract. He has also fought under the Pride card. His current record (Oct 2008) is 22 and 4. His four defeats in the Octagon come from: 5/27/2000 Luiz Azeredo (split decision); 6/8/2003 Daiju Takase (submission Triangle Choke); 12/31/2004 Ryo Chonan (submission Flying Scissor Heel Hook); 1/20/2006 Yushin Okami (disqualification Illegal Kick) He defeated some of the biggest names in the UFC like Jeremy Horn, Chris Leben, Rich Franklin x2, Dan Henderson and James Irvin amoung others. Rumors are starting to come out now saying that Anderson Silva will retire in 2009. His manager said that he still has 6 fights left on his contract and will not retire before then. He further stated that Silva plans to retire when he is 35. Let hope these rumors are not true. Anderson Silva is one of the most entertaining and well rounded fighters in the UFC. How would Silva do against someone like Rashad Evans or a Rampage Jackson? He has won his last eight fights in a row. All by TKO,KO or Submission. That's taking care of business!
